What is counselling?

Counselling is a form of talking therapy where you can talk about how you feel and any problems you may be experiencing.

What can Counselling help with?

Counselling is useful to help with many problems including:

1. Feeling Low, Depression

2. Anxiety and Stress

3. Relationship/Family problems

4. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

5. Bereavement, Grief

6. Redundancy and other work-related issues

And much more…

What will happen at my first counselling session?

When you come along for your first session, your counsellor will take time to find out about you and what you are looking for help with. By asking you questions they will be able to advise you on how they are going to help you and they'll answer any questions you may have.

No question is 'silly nor stupid' so please be sure to ask anything you wish to. Your counselling sessions are for you to focus on yourself and your mental wellness. You will be able to do this with the support of your counsellor.

Are children able to have counselling?

In many circumstances, counselling is extremely helpful for children and teenagers. Counselling can help young people with a wide range of issues including fears, behaviour problems, social anxiety, and emotional issues. Depending on your child's age, our children's counsellors may include a variety of age-appropriate therapies. These include play therapy and art therapy. These types of therapy can make it easier for children to express themselves and get to the root cause of their issues. Your child's counsellor will also help you to be able to provide the appropriate support that your child may need at home or in school between their counselling sessions.

Are my counselling sessions confidential?

Yes, all your counselling sessions are completely confidential. Everyone in our counselling team follows ethical codes of practice and standards to protect your privacy. Your counsellor will not disclose any information you share during your sessions without your consent, except in exceptional and very rare circumstances. A full explanation of these circumstances will be given to you at your first counselling session.

How many sessions will I need?

Counselling with us will consider your personal needs and situation. Every client we see is so different. There is no 'one size fits all'.Your counsellor will work with you at your own pace. We generally suggest starting with a block of 6 sessions and then taking it from there.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

We do our absolute best to see you within a week of your initial call to us. We have appointments available from 9.30 am until 8.30 pm, from Monday to Friday and from 8.30 am until 5 pm on Saturdays. We also have counselling appointments on Sundays from 10 am until 4 pm.

“Thank you so much for your help and particularly to Ant who’s help has been fantastic across the 7 sessions I’ve had with him. To be able to feel comfortable to talk openly and honestly without any fear of feeling judged is a massive help and has had a huge impact on how I feel about myself and the areas of my life that were making me feel very anxious. I’ve learned a number of new techniques and ideas of how I can manage my thoughts that I feel confident about using going forward. Ant is a great listener and has provided such positive advice and I’m truly grateful for this. The environment where the sessions were held was very nice as well. I’d highly recommend you to anyone as it’s so important to talk”
