Counselling, CBT & Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss Hampshire

Support for the habits and thinking that get in the way — in Fareham or online across the UK.

Most people know what to eat

If weight were only about information, nobody would struggle. Yet you can know exactly what you meant to do and still find yourself in the kitchen at ten at night, or starting again every Monday.

That is because eating is rarely just about food. It gets tangled up with stress, tiredness, comfort, reward and how we feel about ourselves. Hypnotherapy, CBT and counselling in Fareham, or online, work on that side of it, including the habits that run on autopilot, so the changes you make have a chance of lasting.

What brings people to us

Clients from Fareham, Portsmouth, Southampton and Gosport often describe some of these.

Eating when stressed or upset Eating in the evening, out of habit Years of starting again on Monday Food as the main reward of the day Feeling out of control around certain foods Eating when bored or lonely Losing motivation after a good start Feeling low about your body Health reasons for making a change Keeping changes going after weight loss

We are not a diet. Our therapists do not weigh you, set targets or tell you what to eat. We work on what sits underneath, and you can do that alongside your GP, a dietitian or any programme you are already following.

The diet cycle

If you have been round this loop a few times, it is not because you lack willpower. The cycle itself creates the next stage. Tap a stage to see it, or step out of the loop and see what therapy does differently.

Nothing here is about willpower. It is about taking the pressure off, so food stops being the battleground.

Hypnotherapy for emotional eating and weight

Most eating happens on autopilot. You are halfway through the packet before you have decided anything, because the habit lives below conscious thought. Hypnotherapy works at that level, using deep relaxation and gentle suggestion to loosen automatic habits and calm the stress that so often sets them off.

Calm the stress behind the eatingDeep relaxation gives your body another way to settle, so food is not the only thing that takes the edge off a hard day.
Loosen automatic habitsThe evening routine, the biscuit with the kettle, the drive home detour. Hypnotherapy helps break the link between the trigger and the habit.
Rehearse the version of you that copesYour hypnotherapist guides you through handling the moments that usually catch you out, so they feel more manageable in real life.
Build self-belief, not shamePositive suggestion strengthens the belief that you can change this, which is usually what the last attempt knocked out of you.

People use weight loss hypnotherapy for

Emotional and comfort eating Evening and night-time snacking Cravings for sugar and chocolate Grazing while cooking or working Motivation to keep moving Staying on track after a setback

Hypnotherapy can be used on its own or combined with CBT as Hypno-CBT, which pairs practical tools with deep relaxation. Sessions are available in person in Fareham, easy to reach from Portsmouth, Southampton and Gosport, or online across the UK. You stay awake, aware and in control the whole time, and nobody can make you do anything you do not want to do.

An honest word: hypnotherapy is not a magic fix, and no therapist can promise you a particular result. What it can do is make the changes you want to make feel less like a fight.

If food feels out of control

If you are bingeing, making yourself sick, skipping meals for long stretches, or thinking about food and your body most of the day, that deserves proper support rather than another plan. Have a look at our eating disorders page, speak to your GP, or call the Beat adult helpline free on 0808 801 0677. There is no judgement here, and you will not be turned away.

How therapy helps

We start with your own pattern, not a programme.

Notice the pattern

When does eating help you cope, and what is it doing for you in that moment?

Meet the need another way

Find other ways to handle stress, boredom, tiredness and reward, so food is not the only one.

Drop the guilt

Guilt keeps the cycle turning. Self-compassion is what actually helps people keep going.

Make it stick

Small changes you can live with, and a plan for the weeks when life gets in the way.

Questions about weight and food

A relaxed, smiling woman at home
Will you put me on a diet or give me a meal plan?
No. Our therapists are not dietitians, and we do not set food rules, targets or weigh you. We work on the emotional and habit side of eating. If you want nutrition advice, your GP can refer you to a registered dietitian, and therapy works well alongside that.
Does hypnotherapy work for weight loss?
Many people find hypnotherapy helps them feel calmer around food, ease cravings and stick with changes, especially alongside CBT. It is not a magic fix, and nobody can promise a particular result. Your therapist will be honest with you about what it can and cannot do.
What happens in a weight loss hypnotherapy session?
You talk through what you want to change, then your hypnotherapist guides you into a relaxed, focused state, a bit like being absorbed in a film. While you are there, they use suggestion and gentle imagery around cravings, habits and confidence. You stay aware throughout, you can talk, and you can stop at any point.
What about gastric band hypnotherapy?
This is a hypnotherapy approach that uses suggestion and imagery of having a band fitted, to help you feel satisfied with less. Nothing physical happens, and it is not a substitute for surgery. Ask on your free call whether it is available with our team, and which approach your therapist would suggest for you.
Can you help with emotional eating?
Yes, this is the most common reason people come to us about food. We look at what eating is doing for you in those moments, whether that is comfort, reward, distraction or a break, and build other ways to meet the same need.
I have tried everything and failed. Why would this be different?
Most plans work on what you eat, and stop there. If stress, habit or how you feel about yourself is driving things, the plan was never going to hold. Therapy works on that part, which is usually the part that has been missing.
Can I have therapy while taking weight loss medication or after surgery?
Yes, and many people do. Medication and surgery change appetite, but not the habits and feelings around food. Therapy can help you build those changes while your medical team looks after the rest.
What if I think I might have an eating disorder?
Please say so on your free call, and we will point you to the right support. Our eating disorders page explains more, your GP can refer you, and the Beat helpline is free on 0808 801 0677. You will be treated with care either way.
How much does it cost, and can I have sessions online?
Counselling starts from £72 a session, and CBT and hypnotherapy are £90 for 50 minutes. Sessions can be in person in Fareham or online by secure video, at the same price. Your first 15 minute call is free. See all our prices.
